The Old Swing Bridge: A Must-See on This Year's Holiday Vacation to Sunset Beach

Besides being a wonderful place to spend a holiday vacation, Sunset Beach, North Carolina, has something no other place in the area has â" a rescued pontoon swing bridge. This bridge, built in 1958 was replaced by a newer, modern bridge in November 2010. At that time, the Old Bridge Preservation Society was formed to save and relocate the famous and much loved swing bridge. Now you can visit the bridge and reminisce, walk through the museum, and attend the many events taking place year round. It was only by the help of many people that the old bridge could be moved to land donated by the owners of Twin Lakes Restaurant and Island Breeze. Today restoration work continues on the old bridge and special events are occasionally held there â" as recently as Christmas at the Old Bridge held on December 8.Time Warner Cable News featured the bridge in the following segment captured on Youtube:The bridge tenderâs office has been recreated and a museum added.
